Online MA fees in India 2026: every university compared
A two-year online MA costs ₹35,000 to ₹1,90,000, depending on the university and the subject.
Many people take an online MA to meet the master’s requirement for UGC-NET, teaching posts or promotion. The fee for the two years depends on the university and the subject: ₹35,000 at Mangalayatan University, up to ₹1,90,000 for Amity’s MA in Journalism & Mass Communication. The table covers 13 universities, cheapest first, all UGC-DEB entitled, so the degree counts the same as a campus MA for jobs, government exams and further study. Fees are from official university websites, checked in October 2026.

A bachelor’s degree, usually in a related subject. Minimum marks are set by each university.
Who an online MA is for
- Graduates preparing for UGC-NET, teaching or government exams that need a master’s
- People working in media, content, social work or public roles who want a postgraduate degree
- Teachers and would-be lecturers who need a master’s to be eligible or promoted
Subjects include English, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Journalism and Public Policy, depending on the university. As the table shows, the subject can change the fee at the same university.
Do cheaper MAs carry less weight?
No. An online MA is valid because the university is UGC-DEB entitled, and every Indian university in this table is. Paying more usually gets you a better-known name, a bigger alumni network or a better online platform, which may or may not matter for your plans.
