Is online-degree counselling worth it?

What a good counsellor does
A useful counsellor does four things: shortlists two or three universities that fit your budget and goal, shows you the real fees and EMI options before you commit, points you to each university’s UGC-DEB entitlement so you can check it yourself, and tells you when an option is wrong for you.
They should never push the most expensive university, make up placement percentages, or pressure you with fake “last seat” deadlines.
What many students miss
Many “free counsellors” are commission agents. They earn more when you enrol in a costlier programme, so their shortlist tends to lean that way. The advice can still be useful, but check every recommendation against your own budget and goal.

How to use any counsellor without being misled
- Ask: “Is this university UGC-DEB entitled for this programme, this year?” Then check it yourself at deb.ugc.ac.in.
- Ask for the total fee in writing, including exam and other charges.
- Ask why a university is being recommended for you. The answer should be about your goal and budget, not the brand.
- Compare at least two or three options side by side before deciding. Our comparison pages help with this.
When you don’t need a counsellor
If you already know your university and programme, have checked its entitlement, and have the fees in writing, just apply. Counselling helps most when you are unsure, comparing options, or worried about validity.
