Short answer: yes — but only if the counsellor is genuinely unbiased. Online-degree counselling can save you a lot of money and a few bad decisions. It can also be a sales pitch dressed up as advice. Here is how to tell the difference.
A useful counsellor does four things: shortlists 2–3 universities that fit your budget and goal, shows you real fees and EMI options before you commit, points you to each university’s UGC-DEB entitlement so you can verify it yourself, and tells you honestly when an option is wrong for you.
What they should never do is push the most expensive university, invent placement percentages, or pressure you with fake “last seat” urgency.
Many “free counsellors” are commission agents. They earn more when you enrol in a costlier programme, so their shortlist quietly tilts that way. The advice can still be useful — but you have to know the incentive behind it.
We are paid by universities when you enrol, the same model as a flight-booking site — and we say so openly on our disclosure page. Crucially, your university fee is identical whether you come through us or apply directly, so we have no reason to push the costliest option. You get one named counsellor (not a call centre), and we will tell you when a cheaper university — or waiting for the next intake — is the smarter move.
If you already know your exact university and programme, have verified its entitlement, and have the fees in writing — just apply. Counselling is most valuable when you are unsure, comparing options, or worried about validity.
