1 year online MBA in India 2026: the only Indian option and alternatives
Almost every UGC-entitled online MBA in India takes two years. One Indian university offers a 1-year online MBA, and a few foreign universities offer short online MBAs too. Here is what each costs and who it suits.
If you want an MBA in one year without leaving your job, your options are limited. Among Indian universities, O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) is the only one offering a 1-year online MBA. Every other UGC-entitled online MBA in India runs for two years. A few foreign universities offer shorter online MBAs that you can study from India.
1-year and short online MBAs compared
| Programme | Duration | Total fee | Recognition |

- Admissions: multiple cohorts a year, merit-based, no entrance exam.
- Brand: JGU is QS World-ranked and was named India’s top private university by QS from 2021 to 2023.
Because the whole MBA is packed into one year, expect a heavier weekly workload than a 2-year online MBA. Plan your study hours before you enrol, especially if your job is demanding.

1-year or 2-year: which should you choose?
- Choose JGU’s 1-year MBA if you need the degree quickly, for a promotion, a role change or an upcoming eligibility deadline, and can handle an intensive year.
- Choose a 2-year online MBA if you want a lighter weekly load or a lower fee. The same UGC validity starts at ₹67,000.
- Consider a foreign MBA if you are aiming for an international or private-sector career. Read foreign online MBAs from India for the fine print on Indian equivalence.
One-year MBAs from IIMs and other B-schools (such as executive PGP programmes) are full-time, on-campus courses, not online degrees.
