What no-cost EMI means
On a no-cost EMI, the university or a discount covers the interest, so you repay the fee and nothing more. It is still a loan from a bank or finance company, which means:
- A processing fee may apply. Some partners charge a one-time fee even at zero interest.
- Expect a credit check. Approval depends on your income and credit score, or on a co-applicant’s.
- Late payments count against you. Missed EMIs are reported to credit bureaus and can lower your CIBIL score.
- The upfront price can be lower. Paying in full costs less at Uttaranchal University, GLA and VGU.
Semester payments or EMI
If a payment every six months is manageable, paying per semester avoids a loan, a credit check and any processing fee. A monthly EMI suits you better if you want an even cost each month out of your salary.
