The two admission cycles

UGC-DEB entitled universities generally run two admission sessions each year: a January session and a July session. The July 2026 session has closed, and admissions for the January 2027 session are open now. Last dates vary by university and programme within each cycle; there is no single all-India last date, and each university publishes its own. If you miss the January 2027 cycle, the next start is July 2027.

Step 1: Shortlist only UGC-DEB entitled programmes

Before comparing fees or curriculum, filter your shortlist down to programmes that are UGC-DEB entitled for the session you plan to join. Step 2: Confirm eligibility for your specific programme

Eligibility requirements differ by degree level and, for postgraduate programmes, sometimes by specialisation:

• Undergraduate (BBA, B.Com, BCA, BA): Class 12 pass from a recognised board is the general baseline; specific universities may add minimum marks criteria.
• Postgraduate (MBA, MCA, M.Com, MA, M.Sc): A relevant bachelor’s degree, usually of three years’ duration, from a recognised university; some MCA programmes specify a mathematics background at 10+2 or graduation level.

Confirm the exact eligibility wording on the university’s own admission page rather than relying on an aggregator’s summary, since small differences (a required subject, a minimum percentage) can rule out an otherwise strong application.

Step 3: Gather your documents in advance

Most universities require, at minimum:

• Previous academic mark sheets and passing certificates, usually as PDF scans
• A recent photograph, usually as a JPEG
• Identity proof, such as Aadhaar or passport
• Work experience letters or recent salary slips, where the programme asks for or gives weight to professional experience

Step 4: Apply directly with the university where possible

Most UGC-DEB entitled universities run their own online application portal. Step 5: Fee payment and confirmation
