Is the NMIMS online MBA worth ₹2 lakh? A 2026 review
At ₹2,20,000, NMIMS is one of the priciest online MBAs in India, more than double a value university. We help students apply to both, and this is when the extra fee is worth paying and when it isn’t.
NMIMS (SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies) runs one of India’s best-known online MBAs, and one of its most expensive, at ₹2,20,000 (₹1,96,000 if paid upfront). Most students ask us the same thing: is it worth paying that much when a UGC-entitled MBA is available for less than half the price? It depends on your goal, so here is how we help students decide.
What the higher fee pays for
It does not buy a more valid degree. A UGC-DEB entitled MBA from a value partner like Uttaranchal University (₹99,600 with its early-bird scholarship) is legally just as valid as NMIMS for jobs, promotions and government eligibility. What ₹2.2 lakh buys at NMIMS is three things:
- A well-known name. NMIMS is a leading B-school (NAAC A++), and recruiters recognise it on a CV. For some roles that counts.
- A larger alumni network. More senior professionals you can ask for referrals and job moves.
- A more polished experience. A mature online platform, structured delivery and established learner support.
One thing to know before you pay: an online MBA, from NMIMS or anyone else, does not come with the campus placement drive that the full-time NMIMS MBA is known for. Treat the extra fee as paying for the name and the network, not for placements.
NMIMS vs the value alternatives
This is the comparison we show students. Every one of these is UGC-entitled and fully online, so the degree is equally valid; the difference is the name and the fee.
| University | NAAC | Indicative total |
|---|---|---|
| Uttaranchal University | A+ | ₹99,600 |

When NMIMS is worth ₹2 lakh
- You work in (or are aiming for) an industry that cares about names, such as consulting, banking and finance or large corporates, where the B-school on your CV affects hiring.
- You want the largest alumni network you can get for referrals and future job moves.
- Your employer reimburses tuition, or the fee sits comfortably in your budget.
- You’re early or mid-career and will use the name for many years.
When it isn’t, and you should save the money
- You need the MBA mainly for eligibility or a promotion, where the degree matters more than the name. A value university gives the same UGC entitlement for less than half the cost.
- You’re paying yourself on a tight budget. A difference of more than ₹1 lakh is a lot of money.
- You’re expecting campus placements. No online MBA provides them.
- Your target employers care about skills and a valid degree, not the specific institution.
Our verdict
NMIMS is a strong online MBA, but ₹2 lakh is worth it for a particular student: someone in a name-conscious industry, building a career on contacts, with a comfortable budget. Most students need a recognised MBA to meet an eligibility rule or earn a promotion, and for them a value university gives the same UGC-entitled degree for far less. That is what we would recommend.
